Our visits and tours
Between the Mediterranean, the Causse du Larzac and the Cévennes, this ancient winegrowing area basks in a sun-drenched plain, bathed by the course of the river Hérault. Here, in this land between the sky and the vines, every village is a place to be visited, a place where the garrigue grows side by side with vines of great renown.
Take a few hours off and let yourself be guided by the professionals from the Saint-Guilhem-le-Désert Intercommunal Tourist Office. They will help you to understand the spirit of these villages that have had such a major impact on the history of the region.
A little historyIn the 8th century there began an era of peace and prosperity during which the area was focused on the monasteries of Aniane and Gellone. The population came together to form our villages. The unusual layout of these villages (single-street villages and circular villages, known as “circulades”, that developed around a castle or a church) have left their mark still today on our landscape and reveal the unique characteristics of this land.
Here, each village, with its centuries-old culture and traditions, will unfold to you its historical treasures.
