Colaser, Senegal
Activity: ophthalmological clinic
Established: 2007
I&P's investment: participating loan and subordinated loan
Revenue in 2007-2008 (18 months): 771 000 €
Entrepreneurs:
4 ophthalmologists: Aliou Lam and Makane Seck are surgeons, Faouzi Jaffar and Hassan Jouni are doctors.
The clinic employs 21 people.
The clinic, located in the centre of Dakar, is well established and the number of patients has grown steadily over the past two years. The clinic serves the needs of a varied client base: employees benefiting from social security cover, retirees, the middle class, expatriates, etc.
Colaser is one of the only opthalmological clinics in West Africa with state-of-the-art equipment, including laser equipment for refractive surgery (myopia).
From its first year of business, Colaser has beaten its volume targets, except for refractive surgery. This latter is still something of an unknown in West Africa and expensive relative to local purchasing power, but it is medically effective and Colaser is pursuing a promotional campaign of targeted marketing.
