Nomad is the leading Benin importer of own-label economy products from large French supermarket groups (Carrefour, Casino).
Food industry distribution in Cotonou is split between, on one hand, a number of family-owned supermarkets catering essentially to the wealthy elite and expatriates, and on the other hand a multitude of small, mostly informal retailers (booths, market stalls etc.).
In 2009 NOMAD introduced an innovative retail initiative to Benin with the concept of local mini-supermarkets targeting the middle class under the trade name “L’Express by Casino.” The launch of the first minimarket is now testing the commercial policy and management system. The opening of a second minimarket is planned for 2010.
